What the Job Is About
This role focuses on ensuring that the workplace meets all health, safety, and environmental standards. As a SHEQ Officer, you will be responsible for auditing, incident investigation, contractor compliance, and supporting ISO standards like ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001. You will also help staff understand safety requirements and ensure that all practices follow legal regulations.
Who Should Apply
This role is ideal for someone with at least two years of experience in health and safety management, especially within an equipment or industrial setting. You should have a solid understanding of occupational health legislation and be able to conduct audits, training, and site inspections.
Skills Requirements
- Grade 12 with a technical background
- National Diploma in SHEQ Management or similar qualification (advantageous)
- SAMTRAC, COMSOC 1 and 2, or similar certifications
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- Minimum 2 years of SHEQ or health & safety experience
- Good understanding of South African safety and health legislation
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make sound decisions and influence others
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with health and safety laws for all employees
- Investigate incidents and accidents, including vehicle-related incidents
- Assist in developing safety documentation like HIRA, SOPs, and PTOs
- Prepare for internal SHEQ audits and ISO compliance
- Perform regular site inspections and internal audits
- Use Cura for incident reporting and action management
- Recommend and verify corrective actions
- Attend SHEQ-related site meetings
- Monitor contractor compliance in assigned areas
- Maintain organized records and perform administrative duties
