About the Role
The Handyman at the Catalyst Hotel Sandton provides essential maintenance support to ensure that all facilities, rooms, and equipment are well-maintained and functioning optimally. This position is responsible for general upkeep, attending to maintenance requests, performing preventative work, and assisting skilled technicians with repairs in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The role is key to ensuring a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for both guests and staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company policies, maintenance procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Respond promptly to equipment or facility breakdowns to minimize downtime and guest disruption.
- Perform general maintenance, including lighting, fittings, painting, and carpentry tasks.
- Support technical staff with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs.
- Carry out routine inspections to identify areas that require maintenance or safety improvements.
- Paint and repair surfaces, fixtures, and furnishings as needed to maintain visual appeal.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, storerooms, and maintenance zones.
- Monitor and maintain water pressure, heating, and related facility systems.
- Complete maintenance records and safety logs accurately and on time.
- Ensure emergency and fire safety equipment remains functional and properly stored.
- Assist with setting up or dismantling equipment and installations for events or hotel operations.
- Collaborate with other departments to address guest maintenance requests efficiently.
- Report and document all maintenance work performed in compliance with hotel standards.
- Perform additional ad hoc tasks as directed by management or supervisors.
Minimum Requirements
- Higher Certificate or relevant qualification in maintenance or technical trades.
- Proficiency in basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry work.
- Strong problem-solving ability and technical awareness.
- High physical stamina, reliability, and manual dexterity.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when needed.
