About the Role

The Night Receptionist at Newmark Hotels’ Catalyst Hotel in Sandton plays a vital role in maintaining high guest satisfaction during late-night and early-morning hours. As the first and last point of contact for guests arriving late or departing early, this role ensures seamless check-in/out processes, accurate night audit functions, and exceptional service delivery throughout the night. The position is ideal for individuals with strong communication skills, a passion for customer service, and the ability to work independently under pressure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist guests during late check-ins and early check-outs with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Complete “End of Day” procedures in the Property Management System (PMS) and generate financial reports.
  • Manage online and telephone reservations in coordination with the central reservations team.
  • Verify and process guest payments in compliance with hotel SOPs.
  • Collect, verify, and record guest information including ID copies, contact details, and payment data.
  • Review outstanding charges and resolve any financial discrepancies.
  • Allocate guest rooms efficiently and prepare for early arrivals prior to morning shift handover.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all guest relations issues during night hours.
  • Coordinate with housekeeping to ensure guest rooms meet quality and cleanliness standards.
  • Confirm and organize group reservations and VIP guest requirements.
  • Upsell hotel amenities and promote additional services to enhance guest experiences.
  • Assist the Night Auditor with reports, reconciliations, and audit-related tasks.
  • Summarize guest feedback for inclusion in morning briefings and operational reports.
  • Collaborate with security to ensure the safety and security of all guests and property.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / National Certificate qualification.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written); proficiency in additional languages is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and hotel management software (preferably OPERA).
  • Strong mathematical, administrative, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing night shifts effectively.
