About the Role

The Artisan Mechanical is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance to maximize equipment uptime. You will test machinery and components, diagnose faults, and perform repairs following Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards. This role also involves carrying out preventive maintenance, supervising Artisan Assistants and Apprentices, and contributing to root cause analysis to improve operational efficiency. Skills & Requirements

  • Grade 12 qualification
  • N6 Mechanical Engineering Diploma
  • Mechanical Trade Test Certificate
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Artisan
  • Proficiency in pumps, gearboxes, compressors, conveyors, blowers, and other rotating equipment
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including fault-finding and component replacement
  • Experience with shaft alignment, bearing replacement, coupling installation, and lubrication practices
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals
  • Hands-on experience with workshop tools and machinery
  • Competent in diagnosing mechanical faults and performing corrective actions
  • Experience installing mechanical seals, gaskets, and performing flange inspections
  • Inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment, including statutory load testing
  • Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to maintenance standards
