Role Overview

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing and executing the full spectrum of financial accounting duties, including the accurate preparation and reconciliation of financial records, oversight of reinsurance functions, and ensuring strict adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements.

This role also supports FEM’s internal and external audits, facilitates effective financial reporting, and contributes to the efficient operation of the finance department through meticulous record-keeping and proactive communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete financial accounting cycle, including general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end processes.
  • Oversee and execute reinsurance accounting functions, ensuring compliance with FEM’s policies and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act.
  • Prepare management accounts, financial statements, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure financial data accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting outputs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, including auditors, attorneys, and reinsurers.
  • Monitor cash flow and contribute to efficient treasury management practices.
  • Support financial compliance initiatives and audit readiness activities.
  • Assist in refining and maintaining FEM’s financial policies, controls, and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 with a Diploma in Financial Accounting or a B.Com degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial accounting or general financial administration.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office and accounting systems such as Sage X3, Profem, and Profet.
  • Knowledge of financial policies, accounting principles, and reinsurance processes.
  • Understanding of relevant sections of the COID Act.
