Role Overview

The Health and Safety Coordinator at Thorburn Security Solutions will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within warehousing and security operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role ensures compliance with safety, operational, and legal standards while supporting the continuous improvement of risk management frameworks.

You will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, and training employees on health, safety, and security protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular risk assessments across warehouses and security operations.
  • Identify hazards such as fire risks, theft, inventory loss, and operational disruptions.
  • Maintain and update the risk register with mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement physical security, access control, and inventory protection measures.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of security systems and risk controls.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and legal regulations (OHSA, PSIRA, ISO standards).
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections of warehouse safety and security protocols.
  • Prepare compliance reports for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Facilitate risk awareness and safety training for staff and security teams.
  • Investigate incidents (theft, damage, safety breaches) and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with operational and security teams for regular risk reviews.
  • Ensure timely closure of non-compliance incidents and maintain accurate risk documentation.

Key Metrics and Targets

  • Number of new risks identified per quarter.
  • Audit compliance rate for warehouse and security protocols.
  • Resolve compliance issues within 7 working days.
  • Timely investigation and closure of incidents with root cause analysis.
  • Conduct risk awareness sessions with all employees and service providers.

Skills and Competencies

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy in documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and risk management software.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Risk Management, Safety Management, Security Management, or related field.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in risk management within warehousing, logistics, or security operations.
  • FM/Technical experience and SAMTRAC certification advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA, PSIRA, ISO, and security/warehousing regulations.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment tools, CCTV monitoring systems, and reporting platforms.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Risk Management Practitioner (CRM Prac) – IRMSA
  • SAMTRAC (Safety Management Training Course) – NOSA
  • ISO 31000 Risk Management Certification
  • PSIRA Grade A/B Security Certification
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)® – PMI
