Job Overview
The Professional Nurse Occupational Health role is a crucial part of Valterra Platinum’s Sustainable Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering quality occupational health nursing care to ensure the physical, psychological, and social well-being of employees, contributing to a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct medical examinations, fitness assessments, and occupational health surveillance as per company standards.
- Assist in the development of annual and monthly medical and nursing plans aligned with organizational goals.
- Maintain accurate medical and health surveillance records in compliance with mine health and safety regulations.
- Perform health risk management by gathering and analyzing hazard data to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Participate in wellness and health promotion programs to encourage proactive employee health management.
- Provide emergency care and refer employees to appropriate healthcare professionals when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Occupational Medical Practitioner (OMP) on medical decisions impacting work fitness.
- Support the management of chronic conditions and conduct follow-up assessments to monitor employee health.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive occupational health reports and ensure timely communication with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
- BTech in Occupational Health Nursing.
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Basic Life Support certificate.
- Certificates in Audiometry, Spirometry, and Vision Screening (advantageous).
- Dispensing Certificate (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s license.
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Professional Nurse and at least 2 years in Occupational Health Nursing.

- Comprehensive understanding of occupational health regulations and mining legislation.
- Strong communication, organizational, and report-writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Risk management and compliance awareness.
- Empathy, counseling ability, and professionalism in patient interactions.
