Role Overview
The General Miner position at Valterra Platinum is a key operational role responsible for supporting all aspects of underground mining activities. The role involves ensuring safe working conditions, conducting blasting operations, and maintaining compliance with mining standards and the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA). This 12-month fixed-term contract provides valuable experience in one of South Africa’s leading mining organizations and offers a pathway to further opportunities within Valterra Platinum jobs.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that all working areas are safe through thorough inspections and hazard identification.
- Adhere strictly to safety, environmental, and mining standards across all operations.
- Prepare and manage explosives and blasting areas in compliance with MHSA standards.
- Continuously monitor processes to ensure adherence to operating procedures and performance targets.
- Maintain effective communication with supervisors, foremen, and team members regarding daily operations.
- Compile and submit accurate shift reports, material requests, and progress updates.
- Support the team in construction, ore handling, and other critical underground activities.
- Participate in ongoing safety and performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- National Certificate NQF Level 3 Rock Breaker or Valid Blasting Certificate for underground hard rock mining.
- 1–3 years’ experience as a Miner or Crew Captain.
- Trackless mining experience will be advantageous.
- Medical fitness certification (to be obtained if successful).
