Role Overview
The General Assistant will play a key role in supporting the truck operator and the blasting team. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the MMU (Mobile Manufacturing Unit) with charging up blast holes and refilling products as per operational requirements.
- Perform risk assessments and safe work declarations with the blaster before starting work.
- Help prepare the blasting and charge-up areas in compliance with legal, client, and BME standards.
- Work alongside the blaster to inspect sites, determine target blocks, and plan the blasting process.
- Measure and map blast holes to ensure accuracy and adherence to design parameters.
- Collect and prepare accessories, detonators, and boosters for priming blast holes according to the blast plan.
- Maintain housekeeping in the vehicle, refilling station, and all work areas.
- Report any deviations or risks immediately to supervisors and take corrective action as required.
- Perform additional ad hoc duties within specified timeframes as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics (compulsory).
- At least 1 year of experience in a mining or blasting environment.
- 1 year experience as a Blasting Assistant preferred.
- Advantageous qualifications: Code B or EC driver’s licence, Competent A & MQA Blasting Assistant certificate.
