Job Purpose

The SHEQ Officer is responsible for implementing and maintaining integrated Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems within the manufacturing environment. This includes conducting regular audits, managing compliance with ISO standards, and ensuring the organisation adheres to all relevant laws and internal policies. The role also involves promoting a proactive safety culture, providing staff training, and supporting operational teams to achieve high-quality and safe production outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and internal audits to identify potential hazards and improvement areas.
  • Lead and participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.
  • Maintain and monitor ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 systems, including document control and audit readiness.
  • Deliver regular SHEQ training and awareness sessions to employees across all departments.
  • Prepare, analyse, and submit SHEQ reports, statistics, and relevant documentation to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Promote and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, environmental performance, and product quality.
  • Liaise with external auditors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Ensure all processes align with ISO and company quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) essential; a relevant degree (NQF 7) or diploma in SHEQ, Environmental Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications: SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent SHE certification required.
  • Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in a SHEQ environment, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong practical knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards (implementation and auditing).
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in report writing and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently and proactively.
