Learner Electrical Technician Job in EThekwini | eThekwini Municipality Careers

The eThekwini Municipality is offering a temporary position for a Learner Electrical Technician in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This opportunity is ideal for candidates who have completed the S4 theoretical component of the National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering. Gain hands-on experience and develop your career in the public sector.

Job Purpose:

To receive training and perform technical tasks as a Learner Technician within the Electrical or Electronic Engineering field. The role includes practical projects and work in various technical areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn and follow safe working procedures
  • Use hand tools and power tools effectively
  • Conduct fault findings
  • Install, operate and maintain motors/generators and control systems
  • Understand lighting systems, symbols, diagrams, and control gear
  • Perform electrical installations
  • Study energy management principles
  • Gain knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Receive training in basic welding
  • Participate in practical field work such as cable jointing and substation construction
  • Understand battery chargers and battery systems

Competencies Required:

  • Planning and attention to detail
  • Understanding of design, construction, operations, and maintenance
  • Organisational awareness and service delivery orientation
  • Interpersonal and learning orientation
  • Action and outcome orientation

Essential Requirements:

  • Completed S4 of National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • Must pass department's proficiency test

Special Conditions:

  • 40 hours per week, 5-day schedule
  • May require shift work and standby duties
  • Overtime as required
  • Must be willing to transfer between depots/divisions
  • Protective clothing as per PPE schedule
