Senior Research Technologist Job – Study Nurse Position at SAMRC Durban (Jozini)

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is hiring a Senior Research Technologist for its Malaria Research Group in Durban (Jozini). This one-year contract opportunity is ideal for qualified professional nurses who want to contribute to the malaria elimination agenda and gain experience in clinical research. The position is part of a dry blood spot sampling study.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain detailed medical history from participants.
  • Collect blood samples from adult and pediatric participants.
  • Conduct interviews and administer questionnaires.
  • Refer participants to local healthcare providers as needed.
  • Visit participants in their homes for follow-ups.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Capture data using electronic data systems.
  • Perform quality control checks for data accuracy.
  • Assist with general research administration.
  • Train participants on self-sample collection.

Minimum Requirements

  • Nursing diploma.
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Experience in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Intermediate computer literacy.
  • Fluency in isiZulu and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in clinical research trials.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and outside normal hours when needed.
