A leading construction company in the Eastern Cape is hiring a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer. What the Job Is About
The HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and environmental compliance of construction sites. You'll work closely with teams to implement best practices, monitor risks, conduct training, and maintain certification standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Who Should Apply
This role is ideal for professionals who:
- Have at least 4 years of technical experience in HSE roles
- Hold relevant HSE qualifications and certifications
- Are registered as a CHSO with SACPCMP
- Are strong communicators with solid interpersonal and leadership skills
Skills Requirements
Qualifications and Certifications:
- SAMTRAC or NEBOSH Certificate
- Introduction to ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001
- Legal Liability, Fall Protection Planner, Risk Assessor
- Incident Investigator, First Aider
- SACPCMP registration as a CHSO (essential)
Technical and Software Skills:
- Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Outlook
- Experience with OneDrive, SharePoint, SHEQ systems
- Internal auditing, report writing, data analysis
- Knowledge of BCEA, municipal bylaws, construction drawings
Personal Effectiveness:
- Strong communication and conflict management skills
- Presentation and facilitation skills
- Time management and problem-solving ability
Key Responsibilities
- Implement HSE standards using the Business Operating System (BOS)
- Review and guide contractor HSE documentation
- Conduct site inductions and manage emergency plans
- Monitor compliance with ISO certifications
- Case manage incidents and maintain non-conformance records
- Train staff and conduct internal HSE sessions
- Support budgeting, resource planning, and project risk assessments
