Are you looking to start your career in the mechanical fitting industry? AECI Property Services is offering an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter to join our team in Umbogintwini, KwaZulu-Natal. This apprenticeship will give you the hands-on experience and formal training needed to become a skilled mechanical fitter in a supportive and dynamic environment.

About the Role:

As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter at AECI, you will:

  • Learn and Develop: Acquire the skills and knowledge needed to become a fully qualified artisan in the mechanical fitting trade.
  • Training: Participate in a structured training plan, attend necessary training sessions, and make reasonable progress towards achieving required competencies. (60 days of training per year at Shukela Training Centre).
  • Workplace Experience: Assist qualified artisans in performing scheduled maintenance, repairs, and breakdown management on plant equipment, including pumps, centrifuges, steam traps, and steam reticulation systems.
  • Safety First: Follow all health, safety, and environmental guidelines, ensuring that you contribute to a safe and productive work environment.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with others to complete tasks and maintenance activities efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on various plant equipment, such as pumps, centrifuges, and steam systems.
  • Assist experienced fitters in routine maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Keep training records (logbooks) updated and available for inspection.
  • Utilize hand and power tools to complete tasks effectively.
  • Adhere to AECI’s safety standards and best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements:

To apply, you need:

  • Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
  • An N3 qualification (required to apply for the Trade Test).
  • A valid driver’s license will be beneficial.
  • A basic understanding of process plants and the importance of maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a chemical environment (must be able to obtain health clearance).
  • Previous mechanical experience and familiarity with hand and power tools are an advantage.
