In this role, you'll be part of a team responsible for ensuring that our manufacturing plant runs smoothly 24/7. We are looking for someone with experience, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

To qualify for this position, you’ll need:

  • Matric/Grade 12 education level (a high school diploma or equivalent).
  • Working towards becoming a Qualified Artisan (you should be in the process of obtaining your artisan qualification).
  • At least 2 years of experience in the manufacturing sector.
  • Own a vehicle and driver’s license (essential for getting to and from work).
  • Own tools (you’ll need your own set to carry out maintenance tasks).
  • Willingness to work shifts (this is a 24/7 plant, so flexibility is important).
  • A hands-on approach and the ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Artisan Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for:

  1. Shift Work & Flexibility:

    • Work rotating shifts to ensure plant operations continue smoothly at all hours. You must be comfortable with the dynamics of a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  2. Maintenance Support:

    • Assist the competent person with corrective and planned maintenance activities to keep plant equipment in top condition.
  3. Safety & Environment:

    • Be familiar with safety procedures and good work practices to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Ensure the health and safety of all equipment and encourage a culture of safety among colleagues.
    • Participate in health and safety campaigns to improve workplace standards.
  4. Achieving Maintenance KPIs:

    • Help maintain critical maintenance KPIs, such as:
      • Plant and machinery availability
      • Clear communication with supervisors
      • Effective teamwork with production teams
      • Quick and effective troubleshooting during breakdowns
      • Timely and quality breakdown execution.
  5. Technical Skills:

    • Have a basic understanding of electrical drawings and circuits.
    • Work alongside electricians to install, maintain, and fix electrical systems.
    • Perform electrical and mechanical installations and removals as needed.
    • Use basic welding and cutting techniques for metalwork.
    • Troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical systems with guidance from the competent person.
    • Work with compressed air systems (6-bar pneumatic systems).
  6. Independence & Reporting:

    • Be able to work independently and keep track of progress throughout the shift.
    • Write shift reports and standby reports when required to update management on activities.
    • Keep accurate records of your timesheet, KPIs, and the condition of machinery.
  7. Additional Responsibilities:

    • Perform any other tasks as requested by the manager, ensuring plant operations continue efficiently.
  8. General Requirements:

  • Adhere to all company health and safety policies and standards.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is safe to use at all times.
