Job Description:

Komatsu South Africa offers a great chance for young people who want to start a career in engineering and manufacturing. You can join our 4-year Apprentice program at the Namakwa Sands and Pinetown branch.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics is the minimum educational requirement for this opportunity.
  • Candidates must live in Namakwa Sands or nearby areas to apply for this position.
  • For Pinetown Residents (Candidates must reside in Pinetown or the surrounding areas to be eligible for this position.) 
  • Applicants must be currently unemployed to be eligible for this opportunity.

Candidates must have passed the following subjects on NQF Level 4:

  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy)
  • Physical Science or Technical Science
  • N3 Diesel Trade Theory and or N3 Mechanotechnology, related qualifications
  • Engineering Drawing, Graphic and Design

Job requirements:

  • Candidates will have the opportunity to observe, learn, and understand a variety of technical skill modules and processes while being guided by experienced technical staff.
  • As the training period advances, candidates will be expected to demonstrate their skills and processes by working independently or as part of a team. They will undertake assigned tasks and contribute more significantly to the organization.
  • Candidates will be required to undertake and successfully complete the prescribed apprentice modules as outlined by merSETA during the training period, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Candidates will learn about and understand the importance of health and safety practices within the workspace.
  • Candidates will learn how to maintain workshop equipment and ensure it is kept in good working condition.
  • Candidates will be required to maintain a logbook throughout the apprenticeship, documenting the projects undertaken and the skills acquired.
  • Candidates will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring general good housekeeping in the workplace.
  • Candidates are expected to maintain a smart appearance and act professionally at all times.
  • Candidates may be required to perform any other duties relevant to the role as needed.

  • Candidates will be trained to prioritize working safely in all tasks and activities.
  • Candidates will be encouraged to accept responsibility for their actions and decisions in the workplace.
  • Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their technical capabilities effectively throughout their training.
  • Candidates will be encouraged to demonstrate tenacity and perseverance in overcoming challenges during their training.
