Role Purpose
The Bus Driver – Passenger is responsible for transporting passengers safely and efficiently according to established routes and schedules. The driver must operate the bus professionally, comply with traffic laws and company policies, and ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers at all times. Key Responsibilities
- Drive company buses according to established routes and schedules, ensuring on-time arrival at destinations.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to identify and report any deviations, defects, or malfunctions.
- Comply with Unitrans Passenger rules and regulations as well as the HST safety standards.
- Read and adhere to the driver’s manual and company code of conduct.
- Ensure the vehicle remains clean, refuelled, and in good working order at all times.
- Register passengers at the start of each trip and maintain accurate trip logs.
- Report any near misses, incidents, or property damage immediately to management.
- Follow all traffic laws and avoid unnecessary route deviations.
- Adhere to collection times as described on the job card and maintain strict punctuality.
- Participate in Daily Safety Sessions (DSS) and ongoing training to maintain best driving practices.
- Ensure proper use of safety devices such as seat belts and wheel chocks.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards passengers and colleagues, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Comply with the customer’s SMS policy and all Unitrans operational procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualification: Grade 12 / National Certificate (NQF Level 4).
- Licences: Valid CE–G, CE–PG, or C–G driver’s licence and valid PrDP (Public Driving Permit).
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a professional bus driver in passenger transport.
- Strong knowledge of defensive and preventive driving techniques.
- Proven record of safe driving and adherence to traffic laws and company policies.
- Familiarity with HACCP and SHEQ standards is advantageous.
